Our Mission

Airbus in Friedrichshafen, Germany, operates the Laboratory for Enabling Technologies (LET). The task of the LET is to develop, enhance and prove technologies for future space missions and to support all future programs, in general. During the last years, the LET builds up deep heritage and knowledge, in the field of laser metrology and Electric Propulsion (EP).

In order to enhance the in-house EP development, the LET hosts facilities to characterize electric thrusters and components required to operate EP Subsystems.

Currently, the LET executes together with different European partners the iFACT programme as European Research and Innovation action (H2020) and several other EP related development projects.

In the framework of these activities, we are offering an internship or thesis student position.

Your tasks

You will participate in the propulsion development activities performed.
Your tasks will include electronic development, lab testing of electric thruster, cathode characterization
and other activities required in order to continue laboratory operations.

Profile description

Your Profile

  • enrolled full time student (d/f/m) within engineering, mathematics, physic or similar fields of study
  • Strong interest in scientific research and especially in electric propulsion
  • First experiences in scientific working and laboratory experience
  • Good knowledge and understanding of measurement and control engineering
  • Good knowledge of electrical engineering
  • Good all round knowledge of rocket propulsion systems, with an understanding of the functionality of thrusters, valves, regulators, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of optical/laser engineering and plasma physics,
  • A good understanding and hands-on experience of propulsion test GSE and test instrumentation, including set up / programming ,
  • Writing detailed reports, scientific publications, and presenting at internal peer reviews and external customer reviews,
  • Knowledge in: CAD/ Matlab / LabVIEW / Latex
  • English: fluent
  • You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
