Job description
A vacancy for an Unmanned Air System (UAS) Certification Engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Helicopters in Marignane.
You will join the Airworthiness Office, within the Initial Airworthiness Certification Department .The mission of the Certification Engineer is to
- Discuss and Establish the future Regulations and Standards with the Authorities and with other manufacturers. You will be involved in Working Groups linked to UAS operation (Part-UAS, U-Space, OPS rules, ICAO Annexes, Pilot Licensing, ATM/UTM, …).
- Define the requirements applicable to VSR700 depending of a CONOPS and propose the Means of Compliance to the relevant Authorities.
This results in a challenging cross-functional position. For this position, you will be In direct contact with an UAS Chief Engineer team, the different key contributors from the Design Office and Support Services, as well as with the Authorities. You will have the opportunity to work on the most innovative products of AIrbus Helicopters range and be introduced to the future technologies and products.
These activities mainly cover:
- The initial Certification of the product and associated Permit To Fly
- The management of schedule and priorities for all these activities,
- The support to offers.
This position will require a security clearance or will require being eligible for clearance by the recognised authorities.
Task & accountabilities :
Your main missions will include:
Certification/Qualification activities:
- Discussing the Regulations with Authorities (PART-UAS “Specific” or “Certified” Category, U-Space, UTM, Pilot Licensing, OPS rules, …) based on a CONcept of OPerationS
- Participating to several Working Groups with Authorities and other Manufacturers to discuss and establish the future Standards applicable to UAS
- Identifying and defining the applicable Certification basis and requirements,
- Defining the demonstration logic, establishing corresponding Plan, and potentially getting support from the Airworthiness experts,
- Validating compliance demonstrations proposed by the design office,
- Leading the product level certification activities: consolidating the results of the compliance demonstration¤ Leading the product
- Establishing Flight Conditions Approval files, for demonstrators, prototypes and serial aircraft,
- Approving design changes and flight conditions under DOA privilege,
- Contributing to the identification of ways to use our DOA on new products like drones (in coordination with the AH DOA team),
- Supporting, or leading as necessary, foreign validation approval according to delivery export need.
Project Management:
- Planning and piloting of Certification activities
- Risk identification and mitigation
- Follow-up and reporting on compliance demonstration activities progress, fixing hard points, and ensuring on-time completion of the activities,
- Ensuring interface with change board management process.
Profile description
You will have the following skills and experience:
¤ Educated to 5-year degree level in Engineering,
¤ At least 3 to 5 years of overall experience in UAS activities
¤ Technical experience in Lead Function or in Project Management,
¤ Certification/Qualification, Permit to Fly and Rulemaking processes basic knowledge would be a plus,
¤ Good relationship and communication skills in an international context,
¤ Synthetic, meticulous/structured way of working, dynamic and proactive,
¤ Team spirit,
¤ Result-oriented,
¤ French and English: negotiation level.
